The RMB-93 combat shotgun was developed during early 1990s by TsKIB SOO / Central Bureau for Hunting & Sporting arms (now the part of famous KBP - Instrument Design bureau), located in the city of Tula, Russia. It entered limited production in 1993, and was offered to various law enforcement organizations in Russia and abroad as a police / riot gun. For a number of reasons it didn't sold well, and a version called RMO-93 'Rys' (Lynx) was brought to civilian and private security markets. This shotgun has a small but strong following among those who like unusual weapons, and is generally disliked or ignored by most of the hunters and shooters, because of its unorthodox design features.

The RMB-93 combat shotgun is manually operated weapon with stationary breech and sliding barrel.To operate the gun, one must grasp the forearm and pull it forward, moving the barrel away from breech face and leaving the fired shell held stationary by claw extractors. Once the empty shell is clear of the barrel, it is ejected downwards, and the fresh cartridge is lowered from magazine to be positioned in line with the bore. The barrel then must be pulled back to close over the loaded shell. The tubular magazine is located above the barrel, and is loaded via the port on the top, which is covered by the hinged door that is opened upward and to the rear for loading. The barrel is locked to the breech by dual claw-type levers which rigidly engage the barrel only when trigger is pulled. The trigger is of double-action only type, with internal hammer and ambidextrous manual safety levers. The trigger pull is said to be quite long and stiff, seriously impairing the accuracy. In combat configuration RMB-93 is equipped with polymer forend and pistol grip, and a stamped steel shoulder stock which folds forward to lied over the magazine tube. Civilian / hunting versions, designated as RMO-93, may be equipped with similar top-folding metallic stock or a wooden stock with thumbhole or semi-pistol grip.
