The Valtro PM-5 shotgun had been developed by the Italian company Valtro back inthe 1980s and is still in production. It is used by various law enforcement and military forces, including the French Navy. The PM-5 is almost unique in that it has a detachable box magazine, while most pump action shotguns are built using underbarrel tube magazines. The detachable box magazine greatly improves reloading time and balance. The only drawback is the increased height of the loaded weapon, but it is not a major issue in most cases.

Otherwise than the feeding system the PM-5 is a conventional, manually operated pump action shotgun. The tube under the barrel serves as a guide for the sliding for end and as a barrel support. The plastic box magazine holds 7 rounds, plus one in the chamber. The PM-5 is available with plastic for end and pistol grip, and with a fixed or top-folding stock. Special version with shortened barrel, vertical fore grip and no buttstock is available if the shotgun must be concealed and used only at short ranges (for example, for the VIP protection duties).
